With a rich history dating back to 1921, our funeral home has evolved over the decades, weaving a tapestry of service to the Attica community. The foundation of our funeral home was laid when Ervin J. Marley established E.J. Marley Furniture and Undertaking in Attica, New York.
As times evolved, historians note that early furniture stores, including ours, diversified to include funeral accessories, creating a natural link to the funeral business. Richard O. Merle and his wife Alice later took the helm, serving the Attica community for over 41 years.
In 1973, David M. Sokol and Beth joined the business, eventually taking over in 1991. Their stewardship saw crucial renovations, including a handicap accessible ramp and expanded chapel space. The Sokols held the reins until 2012 when Timothy D. and Timothy J. Woodward assumed ownership, bringing decades of experience.
A fire in June 2023 and ownership transition in August of that year led to a transformative renovation. Justin D. Calarco-Smith, Joshua J. Smith, and Steven L. Johnson acquired the business, introducing modern amenities like two handicap accessible bathrooms and a spacious, streamlined chapel.
Operating funeral homes across several locations, our partners, alongside Zachary S. Curtis, bring over 100 years of collective experience to the service of families.
