Roland J. Lamb

November 23, 1915 — February 17, 2015

Roland John Lamb, 99, of Cowlesville, NY, died on Tuesday, February 17 at home. Born in Darien, NY, Roland was the son of the late Henry Champany and Ida Welker Lamb. He attended Corfu High School, where he was active in 4-H and played baritone horn in the band. After graduation, Roland continued working on the family farm and taking night shifts at Curtiss Wright Aircraft as well as marching in local bands including a clown band and a variety of Volunteer Fireman bands. Enlisting in 1941, he proudly served in the US Army and rose to the rank of Captain. Roland saw action in the European Theater including the Normandy Invasion.

Roland married Carolyn Reileinon February 23, 1946 and they settled into the business of running the family dairy farm and raising a family. Later, they both worked at Scott Aviation in Lancaster NY. He had an active and curious mind and enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for astronomy and the natural world around him. Upon retirement, he discovered his love of baking and his hobo bread, scones and brownies were much appreciated by all. He was the family historian and could be counted on to tell many entertaining stories of growing up on the family farm.

Roland is predeceased by his wife Carolyn, sister Elsie and brothers and sister-in-laws Leslie (Margaret) and Kenneth (Marion). He is survived by his brothers Gerald (Grace) and Evan (Vonceil) ; daughters Alyson (John) and Debra; grandchildren Meghan (Nathan) and Jeremy (Alyson) Deans, Kate (Jeff) and Nathan Henry and great grandchildren Michael and Matthew Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a much loved extended family.

There will be a memorial service held this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Home Care and Hospice of Wyoming County, the Cowlesville Fire Company, The USO or a charity of your choice.
