Stafford - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert C. Wood, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life unexpectedly on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the age of 82. Robert was born in Batavia, on December 24, 1942.
Robert dedicated much of his professional life to serving as a Quality Inspector with General Motors in Rochester. He was known for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his ability to bring a friendly smile to the faces of everyone he encountered.
A proud veteran, Robert served with honor in the United States Army, instilling in him a profound sense of duty and community service. His commitment to his community was evident through his involvement with the American Legion Post 0734 in Attica, where he was a longstanding and dedicated member. He was also devoted to the Byron Kiwanis Club where he served as president and was a regular attendee at the Stafford United Methodist Church, where he embraced his faith with dedication. He enjoyed outings with Wende, his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his fiancée of 33 years, Wende Wagner, who was his steadfast companion. He is also survived by Jo Ann Martle, the mother of his children; his beloved daughters, Valerie (Mitch) Crandall of Sugarland, Texas, and Kim (Edward) Kazdan of Rochester. His cherished grandchildren, Benjamin (Yvonne) Brown, Noah Crandall, Kathryn (Joshua) Tomlinson, Joshua Kazdan, and Jacob (Tamara) Kazdan, will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. Robert was also blessed with great-grandchildren Tatum Brown, Lisa Clark, and Jayce Kazdan, who brought immense joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lewis and Hazel Wood, as well as his dear brother, David Wood.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street in Attica, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post 0734, 83 Market Street, Attica, New York 14011, to honor Robert’s commitment to community service and his dedication to his fellow veterans.
Robert was a kind soul who touched the lives of many. He will be fondly remembered for his selflessness, his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and his genuine ability to make everyone feel like family. As we celebrate his life, let us cherish the beautiful memories he has left behind and strive to emulate his example of kindness and dedication.
