Obituary

Mary P. (LaVarnway) Bailey passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026 at LeRoy Village Green. She was born on February 5, 1945 in Bristol, England to the late John and Mary Patricia (Tully) LaVarnway.

Mary was the beloved wife of Royal E. Bailey, with whom she built a loving home in Attica, New York. Together they raised three sons, and Mary's greatest joy was caring for her sons.

She is survived by her loving children, Daniel (Darlene) Bailey and Michael Bailey. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Melissa, Daniel, II, Matthew, Larissa, Nicholas, Nathan, Blake, Ayden, Kyler, and Zoey, as well as several cherished great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Crissy Bailey Watkiss.

Mary is also survived by her siblings: David (Sue) LaVarnway, Michael (Maury) LaVarnway, Mark (Late Kathy) LaVarnway, Suzanne (Late Roger) Kimmel, Annette Praff, Kathy (Dennis) Klotz, Sheila (Tom) Thompson, Theresa (Jeff) Hume, and Erin (Scott) Mast, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Royal E. Bailey; her cherished son, Joseph J. Bailey; and her brothers, Bill LaVarnway and John Tully LaVarnway.

As the oldest of 12 children, Mary naturally became a caregiver at an early age, helping to look after her younger brothers and sisters. That caring spirit remained throughout her life. She treasured every opportunity to gather with family to celebrate birthdays, graduations, weddings, holidays, and special occasions.

When Mary wasn't caring for family, she found joy in tending to her gardens, feeding, and watching birds in her backyard, cheering on the Buffalo Bills every Sunday with Royal, traveling and bowling. She especially enjoyed visits to Tennessee to see her son Joe and his family, she loved Pennsylvania, also went to Texas and South Dakota, and spent several winters in Florida.

Mary will be remembered for her loving heart and devotion to her family, and the kindness she shared with everyone she met. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those she loved, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

At Mary's request, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a mass of Christian Burial that will be held at St. John Neumann Parish - St. Vincent's Worship Site, 50 East Avenue in Attica on Wednesday (July 15, 2026) at 10:00 a.m. Burial in St. Vincent's Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street in Attica. Online messages of condolence may be left at www.marleyfuneralhome.com.
