Joanne B. Laney

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joanne B. Laney. She departed this life at home with her loving family by her side at the age of 95 on September 26, 2025. Joanne was born on February 2nd, 1930, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Joanne was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Thomas Laney of Arvada, Colorado; Stephen (Cindy) Laney of Lake Jackson, Texas; Joseph (Jody) Laney of Alexander; Karen “Kate” Laney of Alexander; Susan (Joseph) McPherson of East Aurora; Matthew (Lori) Laney of Alexander; and Rosanne (Russell) Radziej of Hopkins, Minnesota. Joanne also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Margaret Tyler of Batavia and son-in-law, Gary Collins of Hampstead, North Carolina. She was blessed with sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Loren J. “Larry” Laney who passed away on January 12, 1997; her son, J. Michael (late JoAnn) Laney; her daughter, Patricia Collins; her father, Earl McKinley Baker; her mother, Iva M. McLane Baker; and her brother, Richard Earl (late Lois) Baker.

A graduate of Camp Hill High School in Pennsylvania in 1947, Joanne attended Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania. After marriage in 1952, she relocated to Batavia and started a family. Her full-time occupation was mother and housewife. She also chose to work outside her home with jobs at Century, Fay’s Drug Store and Reigel's Greenhouse. Joanne was a dedicated member of St. Vincent's Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed singing and was a member of Sweet Adelines Group and later Crossroads of Harmony. Joanne had a passion for gardening and enjoyed spending time outdoors. She loved sewing, reading, traveling and watching sports. Her generous spirit was evident in her longtime commitment as a blood donor.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Attica, on Monday, October 13th, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sts Joachim & Anne, 50 East Avenue, Attica, on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joanne's memory to Gateway Home, 91 Main Street, Attica, New York 14011 or Volunteers for Animals, P.O. Box 1621, Batavia, New York 14021.
