It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jessi Lyn Van Son, age 31, at her home in Bennington, NY. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lesa, and survived by her father Todd; her partner, Robert; her brother, Dean (Michelle), grandfather, Allan; her niece, Emily, and nephew, Elias; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jessi graduated Attica High School in 2013, but her time at Genesee Community College continuing her education was cut short with her diagnosis of epilepsy. Although she struggled with seizures the rest of her life, she never let the condition keep her from living it. While she tried her hand at different jobs over the years, she passionately pursued a myriad of hobbies and interests. For many years she was active in Civil War reenactments, traveling across New York with her company and sharing her passion for history. Whether it was with a reenactment or a trip with family, camping and nature was always a part of Jessi's life. Crafting was also a lifelong passion she had shared with her family, especially needlework, and she was often toting along a project in progress that she was excited to show off.

Of all her passions, nothing was more important to Jessi than her family. It didn't matter if it was with immediate or distant relatives, she never missed a family gathering if she could help it. She was more often than not in the thick of these gatherings, excitedly socializing. On family trips she wouldn't pass on an opportunity to mini golf, visit a museum or zoo, or head to the water to go fishing or clamming. She was also a devoted and doting Aunt to her niece and nephew, and she loved sharing her interests with them and teaching them all she could.

Whether it was with family or complete strangers, Jessi wanted to connect with others. She had "the gift of gab" and would happily spend the time sharing the excitement of her interests with whomever had the same or teaching those who didn't all about them. Around a campfire, at home with friends and family, or just about anywhere with anyone, Jessi could tell a story and was able to connect with so many people. She will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday September 6 th at the Masonic Lodge on 39 Main Street in Attica, NY.
