Helene (Kutter) Schmidt, 95, of Attica, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Strong Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Buffalo on July 3, 1931, Helene was the daughter of the late Anton and late Emma (Schmid) Kutter. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward ("Bud") Schmidt, and grandmother of the late Spencer Schmidt.
Helene married the love of her life, Bud Schmidt, on April 24, 1954, and began a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together they shared many wonderful years until Bud's passing in 2011.
Helene was a longtime and devoted member of Attica First Baptist Church. She and Bud were very active members of the Church and among other things, Helene shared her artistic gifts by painting a mural in the Church that left a lasting mark on a place dear to her heart. Helene had a special gift for making a house a home, filling every corner with warmth, beauty, and love.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially painting, working on puzzles, and sharing laughter- filled games of Rummikub with her best friend, Janet. Helene's gentle spirit, artistic heart, and the warmth she brought to her home and community made life more beautiful for those around her.
Helene will be remembered by her children, Denice (LeDell) Simpson, Stephen (Ellen) Schmidt, Mark (Tammy) Schmidt, Linda (David) Beckinghausen, and Edward III (Krysten) Schmidt; her grandchildren, Jessica, Alison, Stephen, Matthew, Aubrey, Jaclyn, Ryan, Brittany, Jordyn, Tina, and Daniel; and her 10 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother Hubert (Sally) Kutter, and her best friend Janet Paine.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Attica, NY. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the First Baptist Church, 3 Prospect St, Attica, NY 14011 at 11:00 am.
Donations may be made in Helene's memory to: Attica Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service, 11 Water St, Attica, NY 14011.
