Harold E. Merle

Harold Eugene Merle, 82, of Attica, passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020 at Wyoming County Community Hospital. He was born in Attica, NY on May 4, 1938, the son of Floyd and Helen Merle.

Surviving are his loving wife Phyllis Welker Merle; Children, Jeffrey (Pandora) Merle, of Sebring, FL; Joan (Don) Dylag of Corfu, NY; and Douglas Merle (Glenda Shervin) of Johnsonburg, NY. Grandchildren, Donald Dylag, Jr., (Danielle Kellogg) Katherine (Kyle) Schoff, Douglas Merle, Jr., Carley Dylag(Andrew Riztman), Great grandchildren; Lilian & Noah Schoff. Step grandchildren; Lorenzo Simmons, Tom, Josh, & Hannah Shervin. And many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his brother, Robert & Wife Rose Merle; brother Kenneth Merle and sister-in-law Lois Witkowski. Step-grandaughter Pamela (Punkin) Simmons.

Harold enjoyed a long retirement after a career with New York State Department of Corrections and at Lapp Insulator.

He was a past member of the Odd Fellows, and an active Masonic Lodge member. He also served for many years on the Forest Hill Cemetery board.

Harold was the guy who could make friends in a strange crowd, he could sing, whistle and hum a tune, play the piano, drive a golf ball, hit a bullseye free standing, fly an airplane, and if it was broke he could fix it. He always kept busy puttering around his home.

There are no prior visiting hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
