Attica - Grant E. Matteson, longtime resident of Attica, left us peacefully on Monday, January 19th, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on Wednesday, July 19th, 1939, in Bennington.

Surviving is his sister, Jenny (late Milburn) Parmerter of Attica, and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jenison Matteson and Alice Spink Matteson, as well as his siblings, Richard (late Irene) Spink, Thelma (late Robert) Reiter, Shirley (late Dennis) Wright, Noel (late Mary) Matteson and Tracy (late Bernadine) Matteson.

Grant enjoyed a long and successful career as a Superintendent at H.F. Darling, Inc. in Buffalo, where he was respected and admired by colleagues and friends alike. His work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him. Grant was proficient in all the building trades. He built more than one of his own homes. He was always quick to assist family and friends with a construction project.

Outside of his professional life, Grant had a deep passion for automobiles. He loved attending car shows and car cruises, and he took great pride in his various convertibles and Corvettes. His enthusiasm for cars was infectious, and he shared this joy with everyone around him.

He was a renaissance man adept in many interests. He piloted gliders and remote controlled airplanes. He was an audiophile collecting stereo equipment, vinyl records and CD’s. He loved bluegrass and country western music. He was interested in family genealogy and maintained an archive of family wedding and birthday announcements. He kept a scrapbook of newspaper clippings pertaining to friends and family.

He loved a good meal. The Apple Grove Inn was one of his favorite places to eat. He would count the days to Buckwheat Pancake Season in Short Track and was always there for opening day early. He attended many auctions and garage sales and filled up his basement with the treasures he obtained. He enjoyed socializing with friends on his porch and at Citgo or Ben-Go’s.

A celebration of Grant's life is being planned for this summer, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory. Details of the event will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
