Doug Dayton, 73, of Alexander, rose to Glory on November 26, 2019. He was born on January 2, 1946 in Warsaw, NY to A. Warren and Flora Burton Dayton. He grew up in Alexander spending all
his childhood summers with his family at Camp-in-the-Woods on Bear Lake in Chautauqua County. After college, where he formed lifelong friendships, Doug married Martha on December 28, 1971. He pursued his passion for building homes both in his business and as a volunteer. Doug and Martha have two sons who grew up learning how to build a home, as well as houses, and to pursue their own callings. He blessed family and friends with his homemade bread. Doug put down his hammer a few days before he went to Roswell for a successful stem cell transplant. Resulting complications were too much to overcome. After living out his faith in his family, business, church and community, he left a worn out body behind for the perfect one given by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Martha; their two sons, Jon of Alexander and Warren (Allison) of Roanoke, VA; their six grandchildren, Ollie, Jack, Henry, Elliott, Rebecca and Rosemary; his sister, Sally (late Dave) Havens of Dublin, Ohio and their family; his brother, Charlie (Laurie) of Nevada City, CA and their family.
Friends may call at the Alexander United Methodist Church on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 3 – 7 PM. Doug’s Celebration of Life service will be held at the Alexander Central School auditorium on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2:00. Memorials may be made to this church or a charity of choice. Any donations to the family will fund a set of tools for an ACS graduate going into building trades. Your stories from Doug’s life may be sent to P.O. Box 92, Alexander, NY 14005. We are grateful to Marley Funeral Home in Attica for their compassion and professional care.
Doug will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him yet we rejoice with all who are welcoming him to heaven.
