It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Caroline D. Weber, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Caroline passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025 at United Memorial Medical Center.
Caroline was born on Sunday, August 20th, 1944, in Garden City, Michigan, to Roy and Virginia Basnaw. She moved to Bennington, where she spent the majority of her adult life creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.
A devoted employee, Caroline worked diligently as an accounting clerk at the Attica Correctional Facility until her retirement on May 19, 2000. Her work ethic and dedication were admired by her colleagues and left a lasting impression during her long tenure there.
Caroline had many passions, but was especially known for her love of bingo, gardening, sewing, traveling, basket raffles, raising and breeding Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, a lifelong and dedicated fan of the Buffalo Bills, and cherished time spent with her family. As Treasurer she was a familiar face at the Bennington Seniors club, where her joyful spirit and sense of humor brought smiles to those around her. Carol and Merrill loved volunteering for many orginizations. They each received the lifetime achievement award for 4,545 hours. Her accomplishments encouraged many to find their own voice and contribute meaningfully. Carol will be remembered for her strength, determination, resilience, and never letting her disability stop her from living her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of many years, Merrill W. Weber of Bennington; her sons, Rickie (Wendy) Weber of Rome, Joseph (Mary Beth) Weber of Attica, and Dannie (Jennifer) Weber of Cowlesville; her daughter, Christine (Robert) Loranty of Alexander; 10 cherished grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Her brother, Jerry (Joyce) Basnaw, her sisters, Constance (Donald) Hunter of Attica, and Sharon Hampton of Attica, along with many nieces and nephews, also survive her. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Virginia (Kubitski) Basnaw
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marley Funeral Home. While Caroline will be dearly missed, her loving spirit, warmth, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be laid to rest surrounded by her family’s love in a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Caroline’s memory to The Bennington Seniors Club- 905 Alleghany Rd, Attica, NY 14011.
