Arend Koers

June 2, 1955 — January 26, 2026

Arend Jan Koers, 70, of Attica, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Rochester General Hospital. Arend was born on Thursday, June 2, 1955, in Wierden, Netherlands, to the late Johan and Aaltje Koers.

As a young man growing up in Holland, his time was spent raising horses, Great Danes, racing mopeds through the busy streets of Wierden, and helping out at his father’s tractor dealership. Horses were his primary passion, and his entire childhood was consumed with raising, training, and competing with them in jumping contests at his local horse club, where he developed friendships that lasted his entire life.  In his late teens, he traveled to the USA as a foreign exchange student.   His American family took him in as their own and he went on to meet the love of his life, for whom he was willing to move half a world away for.  Arend and Kathy eventually settled in Attic, where they raised a beautiful family. Besides raising three kids, those years were spent doing what they both loved: riding horses and breeding dogs at their small farm.

Family was the center of Arend's life.  He worked tirelessly as an industrial hydraulic salesman for Parker Hannifan so that his family would be well taken care of and comfortable.  Those lessons of love, hard work, dedication, and sheer iron will live on through his children and grandchildren.  In his later years, his passion turned to helping people and organizations in need through anonymous acts of generosity that have left a lasting impact on many people throughout his community.

He is survived by his children: Michael J. (Amy) Koers of Russell, PA, Justin J. (Jessica) Koers of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Danielle (Kyle) Paganello of Attica; grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Tyler, Cullen, Waylon, Finley, Caleb, and Josie; sister, Anke Van Der Griend and many nieces and nephews.

In death Arend is reunited with his wife, Kathy Koers; parents, Johan and Alie Koers; American parents, Howard and Delores Anderson; siblings, Yetti Preuter-Koers and Joke Bakker.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Attica on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Arend’s funeral service will be held at Marley Funeral Home on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 10:00 am, with a private burial to follow. A celebration of Arend’s life will be held at the Attica Golf Club after the Funeral Service.

In Lieu of flowers, the family is hoping to continue his spirit of giving by continuing to support the various organizations he supported anonymously. Donations can be made through Ever Loved at the link below.
