Ann L. Barnes

Mrs. Ann L. Barnes, 74, of Bennington, NY died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Crossroads House in Batavia. She was born October 9, 1940 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Hoerdt) Moorleghen. Ann is predeceased by husband Walter Barnes of Bennington whom she married November 23rd, 1963 and her sister Phyllis Bokman of MD.

After moving to Arlington, VA, Ann graduated from Holy Trinity High School, in Georgetown, D.C., in 1958. She received an Associate’s degree from Georgetown Visitation Jr. College in 1960, and worked as a medical secretary. After marrying Wally Barnes, they relocated to Attica, NY raising 5 children where she continued her education and received an Associate’s degree in nursing in 1995 from Genesee Community College and subsequently became an RN and worked for Hospice Home Care in Genesee County. Ann was a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary formerly Sacred Heart in Bennington, NY where she was a leader in the church community, teaching religious education, participating in Ladies of Charity, coordinating church dinners and volunteering in the church office. She was an avid reader and could engage in discussions of a wide range of topics. She loved to keep in touch with her relatives who live all over the country and often visited them. Ann will be remembered for her faith, kindness, generosity, active lifestyle, and contagious smile, as well as for her love of family, but mostly for being first out on the dance floor with Wally.

Surviving are their children, Maureen (Mark) Gardner of Varysburg, Timothy Barnes of Jacksonville Florida, Kevin (Sandy) Barnes of Bennington, Brian (Karen) Barnes of Mason, Ohio and Bridget Barnes of Wyoming, NY; grandchildren Connor and Claire Gardner, Macayla and Brandon Barnes, and Lucy Barnes and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of John Moorleghen of California, Tom Moorleghen of Virginia, Jim Moorleghen of Tennessee, Paul Moorleghen of Virginia, Theresa (David) Moorleghen-Hafner of Hawaii, and Mark (Ginny) Moorleghen of Washington.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main St. Attica, NY 14011 and on Monday, February 2nd from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary (Sacred Heart), Clinton Street in Bennington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 PM following calling hours. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.
