John "Jack" Elmore

April 24, 1922 — January 28, 2015

John “Jack” Elmore, 92, of Batavia formally of Attica died Wednesday January 28, 2015 at The Manor House in Batavia. He was born April 24, 1922 in Batavia to the late Thomas J. (Elizabeth Goodenbury) Elmore. Jack is predeceased by his brothers; Thomas (Doris Noel), Robert Emmett (Mary Deleo), William (Elizabeth Powers), Eugene “Gene” (Lucille Love Peters), Edward (Lenore “Norie” O’Connor), Joseph Leo, sisters; Helen “Gert” (Leo Gray), Anna Catherine (Lawrence Hale).

Jack was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force and Army during WWII. He was a proud member of the P-38 Squad 428th in the South Pacific. “Klink” as he was referred to, retired from the Department of Corrections at Attica Prison as a Lieutenant / Shift Commander in 1980. He was a 60 year member of the Harder / O’Donnell American Legion and served as past Post Commander. Jack was honored at this year’s Attica Holiday Parade as the Grand Marshall. He was an avid sports fan, especially Notre Dame and the Buffalo Bills. He attended all of his granddaughter Stacey’s Attica soccer and basketball games known as “Pops, with the candy”. Jack enjoyed his Thursdays with his daughter Cindy watching his son-in-law Bob race sail boats on Lake Ontario from their porch. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father.

Husband to the late Ann Alice Wise, the love of his life, he is survived by his children; Gerald (Susan) Elmore of Attica, Ronald “RJ” Elmore of Batavia, Cynthia (Robert) Chaplin of Waterport; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister in law and beloved friend Bev Wise along with several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather to the late Stacey Chaplin who died December 24, 2004.

The family of Jack would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Sue Naik and Mary Jane for their care, support and friendship.

There will be no prior calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend an 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial Monday February 2, 2015 at St. Joachim & Ann Parish (Formally St. Vincent’s) 50 East Ave. Attica, NY 14011. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Attica Rescue Squad, 11 Water St. in Attica and St. Joachim & Ann Parish, 50 East Ave. in Attica.
